Novak Djokovic Delivers Warning to Jannik Sinner: Suspension Will Follow Him Like a "Shadow"
The tennis star has warned Jannik Sinner that his three-month ban for doping will persist over his career as a constant shadow – while also questioning the timing of the sanction last year.
Details of the Suspension
Sinner completed a three-month suspension in early 2025 after the World Anti-Doping Agency approved his account that a banned anabolic steroid, the steroid clostebol, had been ingested unintentionally.
"That cloud will follow him just as the Covid controversy will follow me, for the remainder of our respective careers," Djokovic stated in an interview on a popular YouTube program.
"It's just something that, it was so major, and when that happens, over time it will fade, but I don't think it will disappear. There will inevitably exist a specific segment of individuals that will continually reference the incident."
The Champion's Viewpoint
Djokovic expressed belief that Sinner, his frequent training companion, "didn't do it on purpose", but he proceeded to question how the player arranged to complete his ban without sitting out any major tournaments.
"The absence of openness, the inconsistency, the convenience [of] the ban occurring between major events, so he doesn't miss out the others – it simply appeared highly unusual," Djokovic added.
Broader Tennis Community Response
"I really don't like how the situation was managed and it was evident so many other players, both male and female, who had comparable circumstances voicing their concerns publicly and asserting it represented favorable handling."
